If you make this recipe, DO NOT USE A SPRINGFORM PAN. I do not think springform pans should ever be used for baking things in the oven because they leak. Even with a sheet pan underneath, it still smoked up the house and it was just terrible.

Hi Chloe, I am sorry you had these problems. I am using a high quality spring form with a lip and never ran into a problem.

I made the German Apple Cake with Sour Cream (Apfelkuchen) and it is very, very good! Except for dicing the apples for easier servability; I followed most of the instructions closely. Excellent, and quite pleased with it for my first time. Would you serve this with coffee or tea? And what kind?

I didn’t peel the apples. I used 3/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup molasses instead of sugar. Added extra 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Added 2 smashed bananas and just used heaping measurements of bread flour. I had no lemon so used vanilla extract instead. So good!!!!
