Pickled Matjes herring is something of an acquired taste, but the flavorful snack is very popular in Germany.
- 2 rolls (i.e. Kaiser rolls)
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1 jar pickled herring
- 1 small onion (sliced into thin rings)
- Cut rolls open and spread butter evenly on both sides.
- Arrange pickled herring on one half of the roll.
- Add sliced onion rings and top with other side of bread.
